FRESH, LOCAL, HEALTHY AND IN-SEASON FRUITS AND VEGETABLES
We opened our roadside stand in 2000, selling local produce from our own garden but mainly concentrating on fall and winter products - sweetcorn, pumpkins, gourds and Christmas trees.
In 2002, we had the chance to update the stand (as a small tornado blew through the village and demolished our existing structure). We used recycled container boards for the walls and sliding doors and designed a roof of plexi-glass with a lattice overlay, to let in all the light we needed. We expanded our line of products to include some other local producers but were fairly low-key operators.
In early 2008 we were given the opportunity to relocate and expand our business into a disused bank barn in the middle of the picturesque village of Campbellville, Ontario. Using old barn boards, we partitioned off the front third of the hay loft at 103 Main Street N - known locally as the Wheelihan Barn, to make Busy Liz's Farm Shop. (See some of the work in progess on the Photo Album page)
We opened our doors in the middle of May 2008, selling hanging baskets, bedding plants, vegetable plants and some garden soil etc. As the season progressed we were able to source fresh, local and in-season fruits and vegetables from local producers and farmers.
However, by midway through the 2009 season it became clear that we were losing money at the barn and we made the decision to move from the barn back to the roadside stand. We have kept all our popular lines of fresh, local products and hope to expand into selling Indian and ethnic varieties of vegetables, grown with the expertise gained from the Patel family.
FRESH, LOCAL, HEALTHY AND IN-SEASON FRUITS AND VEGETABLES
We grow much of the fresh, local and in-season produce ourselves - but our motto is:
"if we don't grow it ourselves, then we know the farmer who does".
We feel that Busy Liz's Farm Shop is the ideal place to come for all your fresh, local and in-season produce - you will be sure of a warm welcome in a convenient country location, with ample parking.
Come and see for yourselves!
